I am back today with our mulled apple cider family recipe. I set up a fall beverage station on our kitchen counters earlier this month and I am enjoying having mulling spices, cinnamon sticks and dried apple rings ready for use.
I hope you try this delicious drink this fall. For added warmth, I like to add a splash of rum to my cup of mulled apple cider(: Enjoy!Hot Mulled Apple Cider:
- 6 cups of fresh apple cider
- 2 tablespoons of mulling spices (I like to use cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, cardamom, star anise and allspice berries)
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla
- 1/2 teaspoon of fresh minced ginger
- 1/2 orange, thinly sliced
- 1/2 lemon, thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup of dark rum (optional)
- 4 cinnamon sticks (for serving)
- 4 dried apple rings (for serving)
Combine fresh apple cider, mulling spices, vanilla, ginger, orange and lemon slices in a saucepan. Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce to low heat and let the cider simmer for 20-30 minutes. Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the rum (optional). Strain out the spices and fruit slices and serve in teacups or mugs with a cinnamon stick and a dried apple ring in each cup.
Yield: 4 servings
After I strain out the spices and fruit slices, I transfer them into a pot and add 4 cups of water. This makes a wonderful fall stove top potpourri that you can use for a few days.I will be back soon with our Fall mantel. I should really say, our Fall ”mirror-mantel”! We don’t have a fireplace mantel in our home but we decorate a long ”mirror sill” every season.
